Dental Crowns & Bridges

A crown caps a tooth too damaged to hold a filling, restoring its full chewing strength. A bridge uses the same idea to fill the space where a tooth is missing.

  • Zirconia, E-max and metal-ceramic options
  • Shade matched to your natural teeth
  • Temporary crown fitted the same day

When a crown is the right answer

  • After a root canal, particularly on molars that take heavy chewing load
  • A tooth with a large old filling and little sound structure left
  • A cracked or fractured tooth that needs holding together
  • A badly worn or discoloured tooth that whitening will not correct

Choosing a material

  • Zirconia: Extremely strong and completely metal-free. Our usual recommendation for back teeth.
  • E-max (lithium disilicate): The most lifelike translucency, ideal for front teeth where appearance matters most.
  • Metal-ceramic: The long-established, economical option. Durable, though it can show a fine dark line at the gum over many years.

What to expect across two visits

At the first visit we shape the tooth, record a digital scan or impression, agree the shade with you, and fit a temporary crown so you leave with a normal-looking tooth.

The permanent crown is fitted about a week later. We check the bite carefully — a crown sitting even fractionally high causes soreness — and cement it once you are happy with how it looks.

  • Typically 10 to 15 years, and often much longer. What fails first is usually the tooth or gum underneath rather than the crown, which is why reviews matter.
